Brilliant Star

  I'm in between stamp club sessions today and was trying to clean up my computer a bit and found this project that we did way back in July I think!  This card is a "way to go" or "congrats" type of card but with a quick change of colors and sentiment it could easily turn into a Christmas card don't you think?

 The large center star is cut out from the Whisper White panel and a piece of Moonlight DSP is behind it letting the pattern show through.

  The large star cut out also has paper piercing all the way around for added detail.

  Think I might need to go make that Christmas card now!

Flower Frenzy Birthday

  Hope you all had a nice weekend!  We were busy busy so I didn't get much stamping done and I've got to tidy up the house today for stamp club tomorrow so probably no stamping today either....boo!  But I've got a card I made a week or 2 ago to share.  I think it was for a challenge but I missed the entry deadline and now I can't even remember which one it was.

 

  I had some fun with the Flower Frenzy die and some background stamps.  I used Hardwood to stamp the flower layers and Backgrounds Rule for the leaves.  The flower layers are popped with dimensionals with an Antique brad in the center.

  The sentiment strip is pierced and then stamped with And Many More.

Textured Leaf - Fab Friday 51

Happy Friday!  Today Fab Friday is coming at you with a fun sketch.  I had so many ideas for this one it was hard to sit down and narrow my focus.  Did I want to make a birthday card? Christmas? A fall card perhaps?  That star with the banners could be just about anything don't you think?

  Here is the sketch we are using for Fab Friday Challenge 51:

  In the end I decided to go with a fall theme thinking of you card since I needed one to put in the mail and it's always nice to check 2 things off the to do list!

  After using so much gold on our last challenge I surprised myself by using a bit more on this project as well!  

  The maple leaf is cut out of the Kraft cardstock using the Autumn Accents Bigz die.  I crumpled it up a few times for some texture.  I stamped with the chevron stamp from Work of Art after stamping off once with Soft Suede ink.  I also used the splotch stamp from Gorgeous Grunge with gold ink but it's hard to see in the photo.

  The background layer is embossed with the Large Polka Dot embossing folder, edges rough up with the distressing tool and then sponged with gold ink.

  The sentiment "thinking of you" is from For the Birds and was just the right size for stamping on one of my banners.

Bold Star Thank You

It is a cloudy, cool and damp day here in Glen Allen.  I say it's the perfect conditions for stamping!  I'm in the midst of designing my stamp club project for next week but first I want to share a thank you card.

  Two fun things to note on this card.  First is the "shadow" behind the Crushed Curry star.  I just cut a second star out of Basic Black and offset the top star a bit and popped it with dimensionals.  This little step really makes the top star stand out.

  The second thing is that I kind of made myself some custom DSP to use with this card.  The original pattern is just the Bermuda Bay and Whisper White.  I just grabbed my matching markers and filled in some of the half circles in a random pattern.  I thought it was a fun way to use this pattern.

Hardwood Autumn

  I saw a card on Pinterest last week that didn't use Stampin' Up! products but had some great elements that I knew I could replicate using only Stampin' Up!  Here is my version:

  The base is Crumb Cake, then a layer of Soft Suede.  The next layer is Crumb Cake again and it is stamped with the Hardwood background in Soft Suede ink.  The edges of the Hardwood panel are sponged a bit with Soft Suede ink.

  I used the Fun Fall Framelits to cut out 3 of the leaf shapes in the top panel and backed the cut outs with my colored pieces of cardstock: Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze and Mossy Meadow.  This is a fun way to use up some smaller pieces of scraps.  This easy technique would also work well with DSP scraps.

  Next I wrapped a piece of Mossy Meadow stitched satin ribbon around the top layer and adhered it a bit so it would stay put while I tied a linen thread bow on one side.  

  The sentiment is stamped under the ribbon in Early Espresso to make it a bit darker to show up better.

Fall Flower Birthday

  I was out doing some errands last week and stopped in at Home Goods to try to find what I was looking for.  One of the displays had a group of arm chairs and one of them caught my eye.  It was a chevron patterned fabric with the colors of Soft Sky, Cajun Craze, Old Olive, and Early Espresso.

  Is that a great color combo for fall or what?  I snapped a photo so I wouldn't forget once I got to the stamp room.  I was going to go with chevrons too but then came across this sketch at CAS(s) this Sketch and decided to go the clean and simple route.  A fall birthday card is always needed and the Flower Patch stamp set with it's bold designs would be a perfect focal point.

  A simple card but some details to note:

  The rhinestones are colored with the lightest Coastal Cabana Blendabilities marker and they match the Soft Sky wonderfully.

  The flower is popped up for dimension so the clean and simple design doesn't look so flat.

  I used the Festive Piercing Pack template that coordinates with the Window frame framelits to make the frame design behind the flower.  It's an easy way to add detail without adding more layers.

Go Dukes!

  Maybe if I had been a little quicker this card might have helped JMU win their game on Saturday!  Well, probably not but sending good vibes can't hurt right?  I finished it on Friday night and it was already too dark to take photos.  Maybe it will help them for their game this coming Saturday instead.  Starting the cheers early!

  I used the soon to be ending challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches.  They have such a talented group of designers that I never fail to be inspired by their sketches and samples.

 

 The card colors are the school colors of course (purple and gold/dark yellow) which translated into Blackberry Bliss and Hello Honey with some football Chocolate Chip.  Sahara Sand was tossed in since it made a nice backdrop with the grid paper.

  The DSP is from the Moonlight stack and has so many great patterns for all kinds of cards.  

  The football is a bit of punch art and super simple.  Maybe if I get my act together I can do a quick photo tutorial but it's basically a large circle punch and a small circle punch and some snipping with 

the paper snips.

  The sentiment is spelled out with the Calling All Heroes alphabet and stamped in Chocolate Chip to tie in with the football.

Bright Hexie Get Well

  We have had quite the busy day starting with our local Glen Allen day parade followed by 2 soccer games in the very warm sunshine.  The boys played well and had a good time but I think we are all tired out from the full day of activity!

  You never know when you'll need a Get Well card so I like to have a few on hand; it makes it so much easier to get one in the mail in a timely fashion when you hear of someone in need of some good wishes for their health.

  This card uses the bright, bold colors from the current ColourQ challenge.  I balanced out the pops of color with a lot of white and still it's a pretty busy card.  I hadn't used my hexagons in a while so I thought they would work here.

 I inked up the Just Sayin' word bubble with the Blackberry Bliss marker omitting the sentiment inside.  After stamping the word bubble on Whisper White I stamped the "happy healing" sentiment from And Many More inside of it and cut it out with the matching framelits.  It's popped up with dimensionals over the hexagons.

  A Calypso Coral button with a bakers twine bow finished this card.

Snowy Winter House

  Let's get this weekend started off right with some stamping!  I made this one the other day for the Retro Sketches challenge.  I keep seeing all these Christmas countdowns and they make me nervous like I am already behind or something!  So I made a Christmas card to get it out of my system.  Please don't feel pressured or anything!  =)

  I paired up some new items with some retired ones.  It's always satisfying to use something from the stash.  I went to the Color Coach for this one with Wild Wasabi, Pool Party and Chocolate Chip.  I threw in some Island Indigo just cause I'm crazy like that!

  Pretty basic card but here are some details to take a closer look at:

    - The snowy ground was hand cut from a scrap piece of the old style Silver Glimmer paper

    - The house is stamped in Island Indigo and cut out with the Homemade Holiday framelit; notice the string of lights along the roof line, the chimney & window sills colors in with a blender pen and the hand cut wreath popped up on the door

    

    - Finishing details are the Island Indigo baker's twine bow and the Whisper White candy dots highlighting the sentiment

  I threw together 2 challenges for this card.  The colors kind of stumped me at first but I kept looking at my stamps to see what would look good with these colors and I settled on a Hello Honey giraffe.  I don't even need a baby boy card but I've got one now just in case!

Sparkly Sweet Birthday

 I haven't gotten to stamp much the last few days and I hope to remedy that later on but first I wanted to share a quick birthday card that I made a while back.

  Some details to note on this card; the sprinkles coming down; just stamp the polka dots over and over aging concentrating more at the top and then having them space out a bit farther down the card.

  The paper piecing on the cake; the itty bitty little dots pattern in the Confetti Celebration DSP is the perfect scale for the cake.  Another pattern was used for the flags punched with the banner punch.

Monkey Trouble Thank You

  I am a firm believer in thank you notes so I think that's probably the kind of card that I make most often.  I wanted to make a card for Alex's teacher just to let her know that we appreciate all that she does for the students.  She has her room decorated in a monkey theme because really, what is more appropriate for a room full of 21 first graders right?  So I went with some cute little monkeys for her card.

  The sketch is from CAS(e) this Sketch which gives very cool simple layouts to design with.  Sometimes it's hard to keep it clean and simple but I did it this time!

  Nothing complicated in this card, just some fussy cutting for the monkeys and then the paper pierced banner which is hard to see in the photo.  The monkeys and banners are popped up with dimensionals.

Modern Fall Wreath

  This weekend has brought some cooler weather for us here in central Virginia.  It was rainy yesterday but still cooler than the 80s it was during part of the week.  We had a fun day yesterday with the boys both having soccer games; the rain didn't slow the kids down one bit.  It's always more fun to play in the rain than to watch in the rain I'm beginning to understand as I remember loving rainy soccer games.  I'm sure my parents didn't though!  Then we went up to Harrisonburg to watch JMU win their home opener football game.  Today is certainly a much needed "at home" day.

  I saw 2 challenges last week out in stamping land and decided to combine them to make another fall card.  The sketch is from Freshly Made Sketches and the color combo is from ColourQ.

  I think I might be the only Stampin' Up! demonstrator who didn't order Wonderous Wreath from the Holiday catalog.  I think it may be the only stamp set I didn't get!  I've been seeing all these adorable wreath cards for fall and Christmas using that set.  When lacking supplies you just have to get a little but more creative though right?  I used the Fall Fest and matching framelits, Fun Fall to make my own wreath.

  I will admit that cutting out all the leaf shapes took a little bit of time but nothing that isn't manageable!  I lined up the 3 leaf stamps that I wanted to use and then stamped them all at once across some strips of Whisper White.  Then I could cut out each leaf at the same time with the coordinating framelits.  I think I did each color 2 times and then added a few more to fill in where needed once I began to make the wreath.

  To get my circle shape I used the circle framelits to cut out a donut shape to be the guide for the wreath.  I just used Tombow two way glue to adhere the leaves all around the donut shape.  I hung up my wreath with a bit of Smoky Slate 1/8" ribbon (and some dimensionals) against a panel of Whisper White embossed with the  Woodgrain embossing folder.  

  I strip of Blackberry Bliss ribbon goes across the bottom of the card to anchor the "Give Thanks" sentiment punched with the Decorative label punch.  

  The final details are the small cluster of pearls placed around the wreath and then the 3 pearls on the right side of the ribbon.

Spooky Boo!

 Just a little Halloween fun this morning!   I have been getting quite a bit of time to stamp lately and the new items from the Holiday catalog have really inspired me.

  Not the best photo but it's a pretty straight forward card.  The ghost shape was cut out with the Fun Fall framelits and backed with a piece of Whisper White.  The mouth is hand drawn with a black marker and the eye are googlie eyes that retired a few years ago but any from the craft store would do.  And check out that fun black and white baker's twine at the top!

  The sentiment was embossed (yes, again!!) in white on Basic Black and punched out.  I added a rhinestone just because.  There is also a little bit more sparkle in the small strip of silver glimmer paper.

  The spooky faces are stamped on the Blackberry Bliss card front in Blackberry Bliss ink.

Fab Gold Snowflakes - Fab Friday 50

Holy cow!  We are having our 50th challenge at Fab Friday!  How did that happen?  I guess it's true about fun and time flying!  The crew at Fab Friday are celebrating this milestone by having a Gold and white color combo challenge.  How fun is that?

  

  With all the fun gold accessories in the catalogs there are sure to be some stunners shared with us!  

  Here is my sample:

  My base is Brushed Gold cardstock and the front is embossed with clear snowflakes.  I've been on an embossing roll lately haven't I?  The clear is beautiful against the gold, subtle but still shimmery.  

  I punched a Whisper White tag with the scallop tag topper punch and then stamped it with the Hardwood background stamp in gold ink.  I think I may need to re-ink this pad but I ended up liking the light subtle look of it so I went with it.

  Over the top of the Hardwood stamp I stamped the snowflakes from Endless Wishes in Baked Brown Sugar.  While it's a brown ink BBS goes well with this brushed gold.  I highlighted the center of each snowflake with an adhesive pearl.

  On a narrow strip of gold cardstock I embossed the sentiment in white and added a few of the snowflakes from the Frosted Sequins (in the Holiday catalog).

  The final touches are the gold sequin trim through the tag top, the white baker's twin bow holding it together and then a few loose sequins at the bottom.  The tag is popped up on dimensionals.

Halloween Squared

How cute is this little guy??  I had such a good time making this card and it came together quickly.  I smiled every time I looked at the jack o' lantern's big toothy grin.

  I don't generally send out Halloween cards but I might this year as I'm building up quite a stock pile of them because it's hard to resist using this Fall Fest set from the Holiday Catalog.

  The face and sentiment are both embossed in black for some added texture.  The Typeset DSP is a great subtle backdrop for the bright Pumpkin Pie (ha!) color of the jack o' lantern.

  The square shaped card is a fun change of pace and allows for the sentiment banner to hang off the edge a little bit and still fit in the envelope.

Trio of Trees

  I'm continuing to have fun with Holiday catalog items!  As I try out some of the stamps and accessories I'm thinking more and more of Christmas.  I need to start getting some designs figured out to start on my Christmas cards.  I'm determined not to be a last minute stamper this year and to have my cards complete well before Christmas.  We'll see how that works out!  Best laid plans and all....

  I made this card using the Friday Mashup Challenge which is to use this sketch and incorporate the emboss resist technique.

  My emboss resist is minimal and probably doesn't show well in the photo but I embossed the trees with white embossing powder onto white cardstock and then sponged the colors over the top before punch them out.

  I used the Festival of Trees and Endless Wishes stamp sets.  The DSP is from the Watercolor Wonder DSP from the Spring catalog so it's no longer available but the All is Calm DSP in the Holiday catalog is a perfect current pack to use....I just didn't get it....yet!  

  The oval behind the trees is pierced with the oval piercing guides, the star on the tree is the new silver glimmer paper and the Lost Lagoon strip is from the All is Calm Washi tape.

Black & White Baby Zebra

  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  We started our fall soccer season on Saturday though you wouldn't have known it from the weather as the temperature was 90 or so....totally not my idea of fall!  The kids did a great job and enjoyed themselves in spite of the heat.  We are also working on re-doing our spare bedroom so we worked in there putting up crown molding.  I did manage to squeeze in some stamping too!

  I used 2 challenges for this card; Stampin' Royalty and CAS(E) This Sketch.  I don't know how successful I was at either challenge but it was fun to stamp anyway!  The Stampin' Royalty challenge is black & white with a pop of color.  I hope the ladies there are OK with Very Vanilla in lieu of white.  I wanted to use this pattern from the Flashback DSP and it was Vanilla and and not white.

 The Very Vanilla panel is embossed with the new Lucky Stars embossing folder and pierced around the edges.

  The sweet zebra is embossed with black embossing powder and cutout with the oval framelits.  The sentiment is embossed in white.  Definitely don't forget to use your Embossing Buddy to keep those stray flecks away!

  My pop of color for the challenge comes by way of 3 candy dots adhered to silver sequins from the Holiday catalog.

Sweet Row of Homes

 I am having a lot of fun with the new products from the holiday catalog.  The other day I sat down to make a card using a sketch challenge for my layout but the more I played around the card took on a life of it's own.  It didn't end up resembling the challenge at all.

  The colors are right from the Color Coach: Soft Sky, Old Olive and Blackberry Bliss.

  I used the new Holiday Home stamp set along with the coordinating framelits Homemade Holidays.  I just stamped the houses in my 3 ink colors then cut them out.  I mounted them on a piece of Old Olive embossed with the woodgrain embossing folder.  There is a strip of Blackberry Bliss ribbon running behind the houses.

  This set is photopolymer so it's a snap to line up images and do 2 step stamping.  The set has a bunch of smaller accessory type stamps to decorate the houses; tree, leaves, lamp pole, and holiday decorations.  The sentiment is actually in a straight line but I curved it on my clear block when I stamped it and then cut it out to fit over the button.

Basic Birthday

Sometimes you need to have a few birthday cards on hand and ready to mail off.  This design fits the bill.  I'm calling this one basic because there isn't a lot of fussy stuff going on but basic doesn't mean boring.  A great card can absolutely be a simple design; sometime less is more!  Change up the color combination for a more girly version...I'm thinking Strawberry Slush instead of Real Red.  Done!

  It's hard to see in the photo but there is a smaller Real Red panel behind the cake that has been embossed with the Large Polka Dot embossing folder.

  The cake image is stamped in black and just the candle flames are highlighted with Daffodil Delight marker and then covered with Dazzling Diamonds.  The sentiment is stamped in both black and Tempting Turquoise.

  A little bit of Real Red cotton ribbon and a strip of silver taffeta ribbon round out this card.

Clean and Simple Pumpkin Trio

I know the weather here in Central Virginia is not indicating the fall season but I went ahead and made a card for autumn any way!  At least I'll be prepared once it does cool down.  Normally the weather wouldn't even warrant a comment this time of year but we have had such a cool, mild summer that now that it's hot it just doesn't seem right!

I used the sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches this week for my card.  I wanted to make a clean and simple fall card to have on hand for thank yous in the coming months.

Fall Fest makes such cute little pumpkins!!

The pumpkins are stamped in Tangelo Twist and then I used a blender pen to take the ink off of the stem and used the Old Olive marker to add it back in green.  Then the framelits made quick work of cutting out the pumpkins.  I used several layers of dimensionals when mounting them to add some interest as the rest of the card is very simple.

Birthday Background

  Well the first day of school went without a hitch and both boys reported that they had good days!  Didn't get too many more details from them but that has been typical....I need to check with the parents of little girls in the class for all news!  LOL!

  I had a class last week using the Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set and I showed my ladies that you can arrange a lot of the words together on a larger clear block to make your own custom background stamp.  A lot of the words can be used for a congratulations cards too so you have even more options with this stamp set.

  The cake and banner are both heat embossed with black embossing powder and the cake has an oval pierced around it using the piercing guide.

Super Hero Teacher Treat

  It's the first day of school here in our neck of the woods so of course there was some celebrating with stamping!  The school is using a super hero theme for the year so when I heard that I was thrilled that I had bought the Calling All Heroes photopolymer set a few months ago.  I made some sweet treats for teachers and staff.

  The scallop tag topper punch made quick work of the folder which holds a Ghirardelli chocolate square because I'm sure the teachers will need a sweet treat at the end of the day!

  The Calling All Heroes set is awesome because it has all the stamps to make different super hero faces, a city scene, "ka-pow" word bubbles (or whatever you would call them!) and an awesome alphabet.

  I hand cut the mask and the banner and popped up the hero with dimensionals.  This was a super fun project to make.
