I've been away from the stamp room the last few days on a trip out of state for college tours with my youngest so I don't have anything new to share but I do have a card that my local stampers got to make at my last class. They loved learning the partial die cut technique and it seemed pretty popular when I shared it in a few videos as well.
I love the dramatic look of the black, white and gold of the Modern Christmas DSP so I designed the card to highlight the die cutting technique and also the paper. This one starts with a Basic White thick card base and then a wide strip of Basic Black cardstock. Next is a panel of the DSP.
The Christmas tree is stamped in Versamark on a Basic Black rectangle. It's positioned just up and to the right from center leaving about an inch at the bottom. After embossing it in gold it's time to do the die cutting!
The trick is really easy to get a partial die cut! All you do is position the tree die around the image as usual and then you out the top cutting plate on but don't cover the whole image. For this example the top cutting plate covers the top of the tree down to the lower branches and leaves the trunk uncovered. Now when you put the sandwich through the die cutter everything cuts but the part that is uncovered by the top plate so the die doesn't get pressed down to finish the whole outline. So easy.
The next part that really elevates the look is using the second largest square die in the Stylish Shapes die set. Gently slide the square die behind the partially die cut Christmas tree making sure to align it evenly to create a nice frame behind the tree. Now just run it through the die cutter as you usually would. I used a lot of dimensionals to adhere this panel to make sure nothing sagged and the window was supported.
Measurements for the parts are as follows from back to front:
black vertical band - 2 1/2" x 5 1/2"
DSP - 3 3/4" x 4 3/4"
black panel for tree - 3 1/4" x 4 1/4"
sentiment - 3 1/2" x 1/2"
You can see this all come together in this quick video and it also shows one of the other patterns from the Modern Christmas DSP.
The rest of the card is just the gold foil stars, embossed sentiment and a bit of white and gold twine tied in a bow for the top of the tree.
Thanks for looking! Did you stamp today?
