Another Dad Birthday

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!  We've got a busy weekend ahead of us so I wanted to make sure I got this card posted before I ran out of time.  Hopefully you all have time to stamp today....I know I won't so you'll have to create something wonderful for me!

I made this card for my dad's birthday which falls on Thanksgiving Day this year!  How exciting!  We get to give thanks for all the blessings in our life as well as celebrate my dad's birthday.  Our Thanksgiving celebration included at least 30 relatives so it will truly be a party!

I combined two different challenges for this card.  I feel like I haven't had a ton of time to sit down and create lately so the challenges have been helping me to narrow my focus so I can get right to it when I do have a few minutes to put the rubber to the cardstock.  The first challenge is the Mojo Monday sketch challenge.  The sketches for the Mojo Monday challenges always have great layers and elements.  They really make me step out of my box.  The colors come from the ColourQ weekly challenge which is to use Soft Suede, Peach Parfait, Dusty Durango and Pool Party.  I didn't have any Dusty Durango so I used Cajun Craze instead...hopefully that's close enough!

I really like how this one turned out.  At first I wasn't too sure how I was going to combine these colors.  The Pool Party was really throwing me off.  It came together once I decided on my stamp set; Bring on the Cake.  Again, I used a sentiment for the main (well, only) image on this one.  These line letters just scream to be colored in so I stamped it in Soft Suede and then alternated colors to bring in the other 3 from the challenge using my markers.

The DSP circle in the way back was made using the Circles #2 die and some Peach Parfait DSP from an old hostess pack.  To make the banner element I used some 1/4" scraps of Cajun Craze and cut them all the same size and added a brad at the top of each one.  I adhered my 3 strips with dimensionals.

The image panel is adhered right to the top of the banner.  I've been loving the little mini library clips lately and wanted to put one on this card too.  Of course it had to be holding something so I used the Pennant Parade set and stamped the "wish big" stamp on Peach Parfait and Pool Party and punched each word out with the Jewelry Tag punch that I got not long ago.   Once I had the clip and tags where I wanted I thought the clip looked kind of naked.  Don't ask me why, it just did!  Since it's a guy card I couldn't slap some ribbon or a punched flower or a rhinestone on it and call it a day so I used what I think of as "man ribbon"....linen thread (hemp twine also falls into this "man ribbon" category).  It's ok to use on a guy card since it's 1) brown 2) kind of rough 3) reminds me of rope which is something you find in a garage and at Lowe's which is generally man territory.  So there it is....man ribbon.  Anyway, I doubled up a length of the linen thread and slid it through the clip and tied a bow.  Ok, well maybe a bow isn't very manly but the fact that it's made out of man ribbon kind of balances it all out!

Ok, enough about the ribbon...the final element to the card are the double lines I scored around the right and bottom edges with my Simply Scored.  I don't know if the card needed it but I liked it on another card I did so I wanted to do it again.  I hope my dad likes it!

Thanks for looking!  Did you stamp today?
