The Paper Players are back with a new challenge today! It's time for a sketch! Claire has given us a classic center panel layout to play with this week!
I got right to work using one of my new annual catalog pre-order sets; Beauty of Friendship. Since my go to nature set is retiring (Rooted in Nature) I thought this classic tree set with the fun layering possibilities would fill the hole in my collection.
I stuck right with the layout except for maybe having my sentiment up a bit higher. My card starts with a Misty Moonlight base and then a layer of SAB Paper Blooms DSP which has this nice blue pattern that I never cut into. I stamped the sentiment from another new set, Inspired Thoughts, in Misty Moonlight on a piece of Seaside Spray (retiring). Next, I used the retiring Old World Paper embossing folder on the panel.
Digging through my ribbon scraps I found a piece of wide burlap and trimmed it to fit across the card and added a piece of Misty Moonlight twill ribbon because why not?
The tree trunk is stamped twice, once on the Whisper White oval and once on scrap with Cinnamon Cider ink. I then stamped the leaves twice on the oval to give the tree a bit more width. Then again on the scrap so I could die cut it to line up on the oval tree trunk and pop with dimensionals.
The final details are the two Misty Moonlight birds and the linen thread bow on the tree trunk.
I can't wait to see your take on the sketch! For more inspiration for the challenge and for all week long check out the Paper Players Design team:

Amanda, this is fabulous! I love the colors you used and that embossing folder is amazing! Your tree is fabulous. The double stamping made such a difference in the texture. You certainly made my sketch shine! Have a great week, My Friend!
ReplyDeleteLove this...that burlap makes a great addition as the horizontal piece, and the little birds add a touch of whimsy! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThis came out wonderful Amanda. Added both texture and dimension to your card really worked out very well. I was eyeing this new set too, and you have really given me more reason to like it and or want it. HMMMMM. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteWow i love the textures on your card...awesome!
ReplyDeleteAmanda, I love this. It was the texture mix that caught my eye. I have to agree with Laurie, The background embossing and the texture in the burlap are beautiful together and highlight your tree. I love those sweet birds, too! Beautiful! Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteI did not order this set and am now wondering if I need to add it to my list Amanda - I love that you made the tree your focal point and the texture from the burlap and embossed panel adds so much visual interest. The addition of the tiny pair of birds and the twine bow are just the perfect finishing touch! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! I love the width of the leaves on the base tree layer, great trick and very effective! I too am loving this new nature set! Thx for the inspiration 🙂

ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Amanda! I just received this set today, and after seeing your card, I can't wait to play with it. I love how you widened the tree and popped the leaves up...so much depth! The birds are a wonderful accent. Great card!
